COUNTY OF DUKES COUNTY DUKES COUNTY ADVISORY BOARD
A meeting of the County of Dukes County Advisory Board was held on Wednesday, August 06, 1997, at 7:30 p.m. at the County Courthouse, notice of such meeting having been posted as required by law.

Chairman Morgan opened the meeting as a public hearing at 7:30 p.m.
Commissioner Jason and Noreen Mavro Flanders, County Treasurer, reviewed and addressed with the Board the proposed County of Dukes County Fiscal Year 1998 Budget.
The Board reviewed and discussed in detail the FY98 income and expenses projected for each of the County departments.
Mr. Early inquired of the County Treasurer as to whether non-contributory retirement benefit payments have been completed.
Mrs. Flanders responded in the affirmative.
Mr. Early commended the County Commissioners and their Finance Committee for all of the time and effort put forth in presenting the County’s Fiscal Year 1998 Budget.
Chairman Morgan echoed Mr. Early’s sentiments.
Mrs. Goff commented that the format is more informative than previous budgets.
Chairman Morgan declared the public hearing closed at 8:15 p.m..

Mr. Early made a Motion to Approve the proposed County of Dukes County Fiscal Year 1998 Budget in the amount of $2,045,685.29 as presented.
Mrs. Goff Seconded the motion.
Chairman Morgan called for a vote: West Tisbury (12.87) - YES
Chilmark (19.58) - YES Edgartown (28.95) - YES
Motion was Unanimously Approved.
Mrs. Flanders addressed a matter regarding the County’s ability or inability to charge interest on past-due bills; i.e. Wastewater Treatment, Business Park rent, Rat Control services, Water Testing Lab. She reported that the Department of Revenue has indicated that the County does not have the authority on its own and requested a vote of the Advisory Board.
Mrs. Goff made a Motion to authorize the County, through the Treasurer, to assess interest penalties against airport and business park tenants for late payment of lease rentals and/or utility charges and against customers of the County Water Testing Lab and Rat Control Program, such penalties not to exceed the legal rate.
Mr. Early Seconded the motion.
Chairman Morgan called for a vote: West Tisbury (12.87) - YES
Chilmark (19.58) - YES Edgartown (28.95) - YES
Motion was Unanimously Approved.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m..
