Ping4 Warning & Information System for Visitors Activated on June 21st
Dukes County Emergency Management Director, Chuck Cotnoir, has announced that the PING4 emergency warning and information system was put to the test today and worked perfectly, warning out visitors that South Beach is closed to swimming due to Portuguese Man of War stings.

Ping 4 is a downloadable emergency alerting app for smartphone users who are visitors to the island. Our island visitors can now receive the same warnings and emergency information on their smartphone that our residents receive on the CodeRed  system.
Dukes County provided $4,000.00 through a supplemental budget in May to ensure that the system was up and running in time for the 4th of July holiday. Visitors can discover the availability of the PING4 app when they travel on the Steamship Authority or when they collect their baggage at the baggage claim area at the MV Airport.
Visitors can download the PING4 app from the Dukes County website. Visitors without smartphones can receive emergency information directly from the County website.
Mr Cotnoir said that this project is the combined effort by Island Emergency Managers, the Dukes County Commission, the Dukes County Advisory Board, the Dukes County Emergency Management Agency, the Steamship Authority, and the Martha’s Vineyard Airport.
