How to run for a position on the County Charter Study Commission:
On February 1st the Dukes County Commissioners voted to authorize the following question be placed on the next State Election ballot:
“Shall a charter study commission be created to study the present governmental structure of the County of Dukes County to consider and make findings concerning the form of government and make recommendations thereon?”
This commission shall be comprised of 15 (fifteen) individuals elected by the county’s registered voters in addition to the seven elected Dukes County Commissioners and the Chairman of the Dukes County Advisory Board for Expenditures for a total of 23 (twenty-three) voting members.
To run for an elected position on the Dukes County Charter Commission:
§ Nomination papers are available from each Town Clerk’s Office, the Dukes County Commissioners Office, or contact the State Elections Division at 1-800-462-VOTE (8683).
§ Collect a minimum of twenty-five (25) certifiable signatures from registered voters in the County of Dukes County.
§ Submit nomination papers to local Registrars of Voters and Election Commissioners for certification of signature by August 1, 2006 (Contact your Town Clerk for hours of operation)
