The inmate Labor Program, in conjunction with the State Department of Public Works, continues into its ninth year. This program provides inmates with the opportunity to utilize their time and help reintegrate into the community. In the last nine years this program has provided over 21,050 man-hours to help keep the roadways of Martha’s Vineyard free of litter.

Several religious groups, and Alcoholics Anonymous are among the volunteer groups associated with the inmates of the jail and house of correction. These volunteers play an important role in reintegrating the inmates back into the community. The Sheriff recognizes and applauds the commitment of these volunteers.

Sheriff McCormack continues to pursue the construction of a new facility to replace the current building that was built in 1873.
