The Dukes County Treasurer's Office performs the following three functions for the County:
--We "collect and safely keep all monies belonging to the county and disburse it according to law" (MGL Chapter 35, Section 10).
--Unlike cities and towns of the Commonwealth, counties do not have accountants, therefore the County Treasurer is the accountant for the County.
--Since payroll is a function of disbursing county money, we also perform the duties of a human resources department.
