County Seeks Community-Minded Citizens
For Variety of Appointed Positions
Dukes County Commissioners will be looking for dedicated residents interested in filling a wide range of important volunteer positions.
Some 30 positions are up for reappointment effective March 1, 2010. Term of the positions was shifted to start on the first of March and end the last day of February to comply with the new requirement adopted by the County Commissioners as recommended by the Charter Study Commission.
“Many of our incumbent volunteers are doing a very good job and we expect many to apply for reappointment. Never the less we want to encourage all interested citizens to apply for these important positions.” said Les Leland, the Chairman of the County Commissioners (2008).
Positions available as of March 1st are: Associate Commissioner for Affairs Concerning Handicapped Persons (one year), Associate Commissioner for Affairs Concerning the Elderly (one year), Associate Commissioner for Public Health (one year), Associate Commissioner for Youth Affairs (one year), Emergency Management Director (one year), members of the Dukes County Health Council (one or 2-year terms), Delegate to the Pilgrim RC&D Area Council Inc. (one year), Martha’s Vineyard Airport Commissioner (3 year terms), Dukes County Regional Housing Authority (3 year term).
