Norton Point Press Release

Edgartown Parks and Recreation Commissioner  Andrew Kelly and Dukes County Manager Martina Thornton are delighted to announce that Norton Point Beach is open after a lengthy restoration after severe 2023-2024 winter storms forced it’s close. Reopening has allowed the County to reduce its request for budget-balancing funds at Annual Town Meetings  this spring. The sale of Over-sand permits provide anticipated revenue to supplement county expenditures. With Norton Point Beach closed, the County had to anticipate a revenue loss for the 2024-2025 fiscal budget that begins in July 2024.  That is no longer necessary.

Ms. Thornton stated: “Although we’re delighted to collaborate with the county advisory board to secure an approval for our appropriations request despite the shortfall we can now go back and reduce our ask from $172,000 to $97,000 with the reopening of Norton Point Beach – a savings to the taxpayers of Dukes County.”

Over Sand Vehicle permit sales are now open on-line on the Edgartown website; however, they will not be available for pick-up until May 1st at the South Beach – Left Fork, according to the Edgartown Parks and Recreation Department.
