Year-Round Ferries

From Woods Hole
The ferry boats operated by the Steamship Authority out of Woods Hole, MA, are the most popular transportation to Martha’s Vineyard. They run year-round, are affordable, and are the only way to bring a vehicle to the Island. Reservations are advisable, and are usually required during peak travel times. From Falmouth
Patriot Party Boats in Falmouth, MA. These large fishing boats take passengers only, and can be an adventure when seas are rough. On rare occasion, seasoned Island travelers rely on the Patriot boat that leaves Falmouth starting at 3:30 a.m., arriving in Oak Bluffs at 4:15. From New Bedford

The Martha’s Vineyard Express Ferry runs a daily schedule between New Bedford, Mass., and Oak Bluffs. Reservations are recommended.

Seasonal Ferries

Many different ferries serve Martha’s Vineyard during the summer season. They carry passengers only – no vehicles.
 
From Falmouth
The Island Queen operates between Falmouth Harbor and the Martha’s Vineyard port of Oak Bluffs.

Vineyard Fast Ferry operates a high-speed catamaran between Quonset Point, R.I., and Oak Bluffs.
 
To Nantucket
Hy-line Cruises runs ferry service between Oak Bluffs and the Island of Nantucket.

To Chappaquiddick
Although part of Martha’s Vineyard, Chappaquiddick  is reachable only by four-wheel drive vehicle (with permit) or by the ferry On Time, which operates between Chappaquiddick and Edgartown. For information, call (508) 627-9427.
