County Treasurer
The Dukes County Treasurer is elected every 6 years and is resposible for all the money received and paid out by the County. The Treasurer serves as chair of the Dukes County Contributory Retirement System.
The Dukes County Treasurer's Office performs the following three functions for the County:
- We "collect and safely keep all monies belonging to the county and disburse it according to law" (MGL Chapter 35, Section 10).
- Unlike cities and towns of the Commonwealth, counties do not have accountants, therefore the County Treasurer is the accountant for the County.
- Since payroll is a function of disbursing county money, we also perform the duties of a human resources department.
