TROPICAL STORM HENRI

Local Emergency Managers Update: 8-20-2021 8pm, 8-21-2021 8am

Tropical Storm Henri is predicted to hit land southwest of Martha’s Vineyard (Connecticut/Long Island area) around 8am on Sunday August 22nd. Martha’s Vineyard is still under a tropical storm warning.  Winds and rain will reach peak Sunday morning and stay until around 5pm Sunday.  Projected winds are 25-40mph, gusting to 50mph with a rainfall approx. 1” and storm surge 3 to 5 feet.

We advise all residents and visitors to continue to monitor the local weather for change and review their homes and grounds for articles that could become airborne debris.

Power Outages - If you would like to report a power outage, please do so online or by calling Eversource at 1- 800-592-2000. If it is a life-threatening emergency, please move to a safe location and call 911 immediately.

Travel - All residents and visitors should plan to shelter in place all day Sunday. If you were planning to travel on Sunday, please alter your plans. All commercial airlines canceled flights to/from Martha's Vineyard on Sunday.

The MV Agricultural Fair has been canceled for Sunday August 22nd.

STEAMSHIP AUTHORITY Updates

All trips are currently canceled through 5 p.m. today. This includes both the 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.. trips for the M/V Martha's Vineyard and M/V Island Home. All trips on the high-speed vessel M/V Iyanough on the Nantucket route are canceled for the day. 

• If service resumes on the Vineyard route, all trips will run through Vineyard Haven. No ferry trips will run to or from the Oak Bluffs Terminal, although the ticket window is open for inquiries.

• If you have an existing reservation to travel and your trip is canceled due to the storm, you will be able to travel on standby after the storm. However it may be several days before we are able to accommodate you based on the current bookings for travel. Our ability to add additional service this week will be limited, if not impossible, so please plan accordingly. 

• Online booking is currently unavailable for trips scheduled through and including Wednesday, August 25, 2021. If you wish to rebook, you may do so online for travel beyond Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Otherwise please contact the Reservation Office at 508-477-8600 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or the day-of-sailing line at (508) 477-SHIP (7447).  

• All travel on the Vineyard route will be reservation-only through Monday, August 30, 2021. No general standby travel will be permitted, but customers who had reservations on a trip that is canceled due to the storm will be allowed to travel on standby during this time. Island residents with emergency or medical needs during this time should contact the terminals for assistance. 

• Change and cancellation fees are waived for the duration of this storm. Refunds will not be made automatically for trips that are missed due to the storm and not either made on standby or rebooked; you must call the Reservation Office for a refund.
